Spring Bouquet Of News From Indiana-PAW
Friends,
Spring is on the way, and on this beautiful
Saturday morning, we're e-mailing you a deluge of heartwarming
updates on animals who needed (and received) your help, important
news from the animal welfare community, an invitation to be a "star"
in our upcoming Indiana-PAW video, and - most importantly - several
special pleas for help for homeless Hoosier pets who need YOU! Read
on . . .
Miracle: Abbey Is Home At Last
Abbey after her safe
arrival home. font> | As we
previously reported, Robin Herman, owner of Lucky
Dog Retreat (a generous Indiana-PAW
supporter), was in a serious automobile accident in January at 71st
and Binford in Indy. Abbey (pictured at right), her beloved yellow
lab-mix, ran from the car after the accident and was missing for an
agonizing 12 days, while people across Indy worked to bring her home
to Robin, who was critically injured. Amazingly, Abbey was found in
a neighborhood a couple of miles from the accident, and had lived
for 12 days in subzero weather. Robin recently shared with
Indiana-PAW that when volunteer searchers brought Abbey home, it was
one of the most moving moments in Robin's life. Abbey, Robin, and
Robin's other dog who also survived the car accident - Bailey - are
all home and together once again.
Barney: A Home At Last
 Barney finds a home.
| Recently, Indiana-PAW told you
about Barney (pictured at left), who was being fostered by an
Indiana-PAW foster parent for Volunteers
For Animal Welfare (a Cedar Grove, IN organization). Even more
good news: after Indiana- PAW featured Barney as part of our popular
"Pet
of the Week" program, he was immediately adopted by an Indy
resident who saw him at our website! A great example of how
Indiana-PAW is working with shelters and rescue groups across the
State in a myriad of ways to help save homeless Hoosier pets!
Lifechange: Freezing Trailer Park To Loving Foster
Home
Rocky & Baby safe in an
Indiana-PAW foster home. | For
months, Indiana-PAW has been seeking help for several dogs who were
left in an Indiana trailer park to die, and who were being provided
food and other essentials by Volunteers
For Animal Welfare. Recently, we told you the dogs were running
out of time, given the subzero weather. Within hours of
Indiana-PAW's last plea, Indiana-PAW's new Foster Parent Supervisor,
Karen
Spikes, stepped up and agreed to take the remaining two dogs
(pictured at right) into her home. Paula Brock drove the dogs across
the State to Karen's home in Lafayette, and Indiana-PAW board
members had the pleasure of meeting the dogs this past weekend. They
are no longer freezing and chained to trailers. Now they are warm,
safe, in a loving foster home, and being socialized and prepared for
adoption. If you are interested in giving these dogs a final miracle
- a permanent home - contact Paula
Brock.
The Photo Says It All
Kaden with his
girl. | Casa
Del Toro Bully Breed Education & Rescue (CDT) recently sent
Indiana-PAW a wonderful note thanking us for providing an
Indiana-PAW volunteer to go do a home visit on the adoption of
Kaden, the beautiful dog pictured at left. We were glad to play a
small role, but all of the credit goes to CDT for the incredible
work they do for homeless Pit Bulls here in Indiana. We are proud to
work with CDT.
Lucy Finds A Rescue Group Through Our "Super
Database"
Lucy goes to a rescue.
font> | Lucy (pictured at right),
a one-eyed Beagle puppy who found herself homeless, found a rescue
group when Volunteers
For Animal Welfare (VFAW) used the Indiana-PAW "Super
Database," sponsored by Petlane,
to find a beagle rescue group in Illinois willing to take Lucy.
Paula Brock, founder of VFAW, had this to say: "Amy, Our little
group was way overloaded and I looked at your website and found a
rescue that took in Beagles. They were wonderful and quickly
responded to our plea for help. I am told [Lucy] is already getting
many interested inquiries about adopting her. Thanks again for all
you do for the homeless pets and for the helpful resources that you
provide for all of us. Paula Brock." We're glad to help, Paula, and
we thank you for the tremendous work your agency does!
Wag's Stray Animal Foundation Success Story Wag's
Stray Animal Foundation has shared a wonderful success story
with Indiana-PAW. Recently, Wags received three Shih Tzus who had
suffered extreme neglect. The dogs had been living in small pins
together their entire life, had never been bathed or groomed, and
had screen wire embedded in their feet and coats. The dogs have been
rehabilitated, spayed, neutered, vetted, and have been adopted into
forever homes. Congrats, Wags, on a job well done!

parents. Indiana-PAW's Executive Director and Board Members are
scheduled to visit Richmond, Westville, South Bend, Greenfield,
Poland, Martinsville, Bloomington, Carmel, Indianapolis, Fishers,

Kudos To Indiana House Rabbit Society Kudos to the Indiana
House Rabbit Society on their recent collaboration with the
Chicago House Rabbit Society, Red Door Animal Shelter, Suburban
Humane Society, and Chicago-area vets to assist more than 250
rabbits seized from a Watseka, Illinois rabbit breeder who had the
rabbits in squalid conditions. Indiana-PAW salutes the Indiana House
Rabbit Society for their good work - on not only the aforementioned
project, but for the many things they do to assist homeless rabbits
in our State.
Putnam County Humane Society Makes Plea For Morris &
Bridget
 Morris & Bridget.
font> | The Putnam
County Humane Society has asked Indiana-PAW to ask our
constituents and the rescue community for help for Morris
and Bridget.
Both need a rescue group, a foster home, or a permanent home ASAP.
Although Morris is FeLK+, he shows no signs of illness and his heart
of gold has touched everyone who meets him. He loves to be held, and
loves to explore new sourroundings. He's an orange Tabby, 2-3 years
old, neutered, vaccinated, loving, warm, curious, and loves to be
held. Bridget is a beautiful Rottweiler/Shep mix who is wonderful
with shelter staff, is loving, walks well on the leash, sits on
command, heels, and will even lie down. Bridget spent most of her
life chained to a tree before arriving at the shelter. If your
rescue agency can take Morris or Bridget, or if you can foster or
adopt either of them, please contact the Putnam County Humane
Society at 765-653-5739 or e-mail.
Vincennes Pet Port Needs Help ASAP
Richie's time is up at the
Vincennes Pet Port. | Vincennes
Pet Port, a city shelter located down in Knox County, Indiana,
has notified Indiana-PAW that they have a ton of dog and cats who
need foster homes, permanent homes, or a rescue agency. Shepherds,
hounds, corgis, labs, beagles theyre all looking for help. The
shelter also needs help with many puppies that arent listed on
their Petfinder site. If you can help, e-mail
the shelter or visit
them online. Tell them Indiana-PAW sent you! And remember,
Indiana-PAW will transport animals from Vincennes to your home, if

Carmel Has Had A Long, Hard Road & Needs
Help
 Carmel needs a foster home.
| Carmel is a sweet 6 month-old
Lab/Shepard-mix who needs help. Carmel was brought to an Indiana
shelter as a very young puppy. She was selected to go on a transport
to New England, where the hope was that she would be adopted. She
was sent to a foster home once she arrived in New England, and all
of the changes (Indiana shelter, transport across the country, New
England shelter, New England foster home) began to take their toll
on her. Now, Carmel is coming back to Indiana. She needs a foster
parent who is willing to offer her stability and help socialize her.
Warren Patitz, a local dog trainer, is willing to work with Carmel
as well. If you can help Carmel, click
here to e-mail Cathi Eagan.
Cat Colony In Fishers Needs Caretaker IndyFeral
notified us that there is a small colony of cats in the Bayside
Condominium complex near 96th and Allisonville Road whose caretaker
died. The cats are all spayed/neutered, and need someone who is able
to feed and water them daily. Click
here if you can help.
