6 Important Notes From Indiana-PAW!

Indiana-PAW Friends,

We hope this note finds you and your four-legged loved ones enjoying the warm weather, and gearing up for a beautiful Spring season. We have several notes this evening, and several opportunities for our volunteers and foster families to save the lives of two very special dogs (Glacier and Louise), plus some information for shelters & rescues around the State. Let's jump right into it!

Community Outreach Volunteer Opportunities
Indiana-PAW Community Outreach With Spring right around the corner, Indiana-PAW community outreach opportunities are starting to pop up like tulips! Remember, when you help us staff booths at community events, we are able to get important, life-saving pet information out to Hoosiers around the state. We're looking for volunteers for three upcoming community outreach opportunities, so pull out your calendars and see if you can help!

  • Opportunity #1: "Earth Day," Saturday, April 22nd, American Legion Mall Park in downtown Indianapolis.
  • Opportunity #2: "Petfest 2006 Spring Adoption Day," May 6th, Indiana State Fairgrounds. The event is dedicated to getting as many animals adopted as possible -- last year, more than 40 shelters and organizations participated.
  • Opportunity #3: "Walk for the Animals 2006" walk-a-thon, benefiting the Hamilton County Humane Society, June 3rd, Cool Creek Park in Carmel.

Dogs In Need Of Foster Homes: Louise & Glacier
Glacier For members of the Indiana-PAW "Foster Roster," we have two dogs who've come to our attention who are in need of temporary foster homes (or, better yet, PERMANENT homes!).

  • Glacier (pictured right), the wonderfully well-behaved deaf Pit Bull- mix who we took onto Fox-59 in January is, sadly, not working out with her new family. We and the Morgan County Humane Society are heartsick over this, but we're working together to try to find Glacier a temporary foster home, until a permanent home can be secured. Glacier is a well-behaved, sweet, charming dog who is in need of immediate foster care.
  • Louise is a Hurricane Katrina survivor, and Indianapolis Animal Care & Control has asked for Indiana-PAW's help in finding her a foster home. Louise is a female three-year old Pit Bull-mix. She is a beautiful, wonderful, loving dog with NO AGGRESSION ISSUES. She was heartworm positive, but Indianapolis Animal Care & Control has treated her, and now they are looking for a quiet foster home for her until a permanent home can be secured. It is imperative that a foster home be secured ASAP.

Article On Indiana-PAW Volunteer Of The Year, Sandy Wiley
The Daily Journal (Johnson County) has written a short article about Indiana-PAW's Volunteer Of The Year, Sandy Wiley. The article recognizes the great work Sandy has done volunteering and fostering for Indiana-PAW over the last year. Great job, Sandy!

New Phone for Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI)
Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI) has informed Indiana-PAW that they have a new phone number, and have asked us to spread the information far and wide so that they "never lose a client." The new phone number is 317-767- 7771. Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI) is dedicated to ending pet overpopulation by educating the public about the benefits of spaying and neutering pets. Indiana-PAW strongly endorses SNSI's good work.
