Hatchin' Something New At Indiana-PAW
Friends,
On this pretty Easter weekend, we're writing for
several reasons. We want to point you to our new and improved
website, share with you one of our recent successes, encourage you
to attend several upcoming events that'll benefit homeless Hoosier
pets, and ask for your help for a handful of severely abused dogs.
Indiana-PAW Unveils New Website!
 Indiana-PAW's new website. font>
| We at Indiana-PAW have just
launched our new
and improved website! Not only do we have a new look, but we've
reorganized some of our content to make it even more user-friendly
for citizens who want to help homeless animals, and for the many
Indiana animal shelters and rescue groups who rely on our website
for its many resources. Most excitingly, in the coming weeks,
Indiana-PAW will be adding an Education Coordinator to our staff,
who will assist us in adding even more educational content to our
website that will be geared towards reducing the number of healthy
animals who are euthanized in Indiana.
Severely Abused Dogs Need Help
 Triumph needs help.
| The Humane
Society for Hamilton County has received a handful of severely
abused, but extremely sweet, Pit Bulls, including one named Triumph
(pictured at left), who were dumped after having apparently been
abused, neglected, and subjected to amateur tooth extractions. If
you can adopt any of these sweet dogs, donate to their medical care
(including surgery to remove tooth fragmants), or provide a foster
home for Triumph (the dog in most need), contact Rebecca Stevens,
Director of the Humane Society for Hamilton County, at HamiltonHumane@yahoo.com,
or at (317) 773-4974.
Cat & Kitten Food Urgently Needed Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is
legally recognized in Hamilton County as a non-lethal method for
controlling the population of stray, abandoned and feral cats.
People who care for these managed free- roaming colonies provide
food, care and shelter for the cats. Indiana-PAW
encourages our readers to help provide food for the generous people
who are working hard to support society's cast-off cats. There is
currently no resource available to caretakers in Hamilton County to
feed the colony cats. With an estimated 30,000+ free-roaming cats in
Hamilton County, many in less affluent rural areas, the need for
donated cat and kitten food is great. Currently, there is a
desperate need for food of any kind (dry, wet, any brand).
People wishing to donate food may do so at: Pet Supplies "Plus"
#157, 521 Noble Creek Drive in Noblesville, or at Allisonville
Animal Hospital, 10173 Allisonville Rd. in Fishers.
Transporting Animals Saves Lives!
Pepper with his new family
| One of Indiana-PAW's most
active programs is our animal transport program, through which our
volunteers transport animals from shelters where they're at risk for
euthanasia to rescue groups and other shelters with space on the
adoption floor. Recently, Megan Carroll, our Transport Coordinator,
participated in a transport. One of the lucky dogs in that
transport, Pepper
(pictured at left), was rescued from a horder, then transported to a
new loving home in Wisconsin. If you'd like to become a volunteer
transporter and hero for homeless Hoosier pets, click

Events Across State Benefit Animals Don't forget to use the Indiana-PAW
Super Calendar to help you locate hundreds of events taking
place on any given weekend all across Indiana that benefit animals!
For example, the Porter
County Animal Shelter is having a "Be Kind to Animals" Pet
Festival on May 5th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Porter County
Fairgrounds (215 East Division Rd., Valparaiso, Indiana) with area
vets, pet rescue agencies, groomers, and pet service companies.
Similarly, the Humane
Society for Hamilton County is having a “Walk For The Animals”
on Saturday, May 19th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cool Creek Park in
Carmel, where folks can have fun with their pets and get their pets
microchipped. And the Humane
Society for Putnam County is having their annual "Lucky Paws
Rummage Sale" at the Putnam County Fairgrounds from May 10th through
the 13th.
Warning About Scam Targeting Animal Shelters Angie Loudermilk, Director
of the Morgan
County Humane Society, has asked Indiana-PAW to pass along the
following note to shelters across Indiana about a scam: "Several
weeks ago, I was contacted by a Ben Benson via email saying he lived
in Australia and wanted a puppy we had on our website for his
daughter. He said that he would set up all transportation and pay
all fees to transport this puppy. We do not transport puppies out of
the country, nor do we fly any pets. I emailed Ben Benson back and
told him we would not adopt to him. He kept sending me emails saying
the check would be coming soon. Yesterday I received an email from
the shipping company saying they were set up to do a transport.
After I received the check I needed to take out the adoption fee and
forward the rest to the shipping company. I received a cashier's
check in the amount of $3,450 for the puppy. It looked like a real
check. I received a letter with the check stating how to go about
transfering the amount to the shipping company. The check also had a
website on it and I looked at that and it was a real website. I
called the number on the website (Navy Federal Credit Union). They
are the credit union for the Navy. They said this is a scam and NOT
to cash the check and that I needed to fax a copy of all of this to
thier security department. The FBI is on to this scam and is
gathering info for this. The lady I spoke to said they are targeting
shelters/ rescues/private breeders/non for profit organizations.
Please let everyone know this is going on. Thank you, Angie
Loudermilk."
Fine Print. Indiana-PAW does not assume
responsibility for animals whom readers of this newsletter decide to
foster, transport and/or adopt. Information about these wonderful
animals is simply provided to help bring citizens and animal
shelters and rescue agencies together. Also, we welcome story ideas,
but please understand that our next edition of this e-newsletter
will not go out for approximately 3-4 weeks.
Thanks to all of our readers for all you do for Indiana
animals!
