SUPERSIZED News & Requests For Help, Courtesy Of
Indiana-PAW
Indiana-PAW Friends,
Hungry? Good! Because today we at
Indiana-PAW are bringing you a SUPERSIZED helping of news, special
requests from local animal shelters and rescue organizations, and
general information! Grab your napkin, and eat up the information
below!
Indiana-PAW Preparing To Beef-Up Transport
Program!
Indiana-PAW is preparing to beef up its
animal transport program, through which our volunteers transport
animals from shelters where they're at risk for euthanasia to rescue
groups and other shelters with space on the adoption floor. However,
we often find that shelters needing transport help don't have the
supplies citizens need to assist them (e.g., leashes, crates).
Therefore, Indiana-PAW volunteer Jan Myer is leading an initiative
whereby Indiana- PAW will beef up our transport program through the
addition of a "transport supplies loaner program" component that
will make necessary transport supplies available to citizens wanting
to help. Click
here to read Jan's outline of what will be needed for the program,
and to sign up to participate in its development.
Several Shelters & Rescues Need Citizen
Help
Urgent Dogs in Warren County
Animal Shelter
The Warren County Animal Shelter (which does a
tremendous job on a shoestring budget) has notified Indiana-PAW that
they're overflowing, and will be left with no choice but to
euthanize healthy dogs if they aren't adopted or placed into foster
homes soon. In particular, they have 4 dogs who are in urgent need
of placement: Buster (pictured left), Rusty, Gidget & Prince.
Indiana-PAW volunteers are available to transport the dogs anywhere
in the State to either foster homes or permanent homes. Click
here to see photos of Rusty, Buster, Gidget & Prince, and learn
how you can help.
Best Friends Needs Foster Help For Hurricane Katrina
Dogs
Tails a' Waggin' Rescue (a terrific shelter based in
Whitestown, Indiana) has notified Indiana-PAW that they're working
with Best Friends, a national rescue group, to find foster homes for
16 dogs who survived Hurricane Katrina, and are waiting to be moved
from Ohio to Indiana foster homes. The dogs are heartworm positive,
but happily, Best Friends will be paying for treatment. If
you're willing to foster one of these dogs, click here to contact
Jane Heine of Tails a' Waggin Rescue.
Humane Society of
Indianapolis
Indiana-PAW is happy to announce that the Humane
Society of Indianapolis (HSI) is the most recent addition to our
foster program, which means our foster parents will now be opening
their hearts and homes to HSI animals! If you're an
Indiana- PAW foster parent, we encourage you to attend one of HSI's
New Foster Parent Training Sessions, which are held on the second
Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Wellness Center at HSI,
7929 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis.

Speaker Series
Indiana-PAW has just completed our first
school year for our PAWsitive Speaker Series, and it was an
overwhelming success! Leslie Cox, our Education Director, and Amy
Van Ostrand, Esq., our Founder & Executive Director, canvassed
the State, with Leslie giving presentations at schools in Liberty,
Fishers, Indianapolis, Rising Sun, and other cities, where she
educated students about how to responsibly care for their pets. Click

worthwhile (but not cheap) program!
Businesses Offer Discounts To People Who Foster, Adopt
Animals
Indiana-PAW wants to remind folks that many
local businesses offer generous discounts to folks who foster
animals through
Indiana-PAW, or who adopt shelter animals. As just one
example, Lucky Dog Retreat, a doggie daycare center in Indianapolis,
is offering reduced daycare and boarding rates to people who've
adopted their dog from a shelter or rescue organization. Click
here to see a list of the many businesses offering discounts to
folks who foster or adopt shelter pets!
National Disaster Animal Relief & Supply
Keath Rhymer, Indiana Coordinator for
National Disaster Animal Relief & Supply (NDARS), has asked
Indiana-PAW to remind folks that NDARS still needs Indiana
volunteers. NDARS is a national group established to respond to
animals affected by disasters at the state level (such as tornados
or flooding in Indiana). If you're interested in learning how you
can help, please visit www.ndars.org
or contact Keath Rhymer, Indiana state NDARS Cordinator at keath@basenjirescue.us or
at 317-507-6540.
And thanks to all of YOU for all you do for Indiana animals!
