Cornucopia Of Indiana-PAW Fall News!

Indiana-PAW Friends,

Fall is nearly upon us, and Indiana-PAW has an abundance of information to pass along to you on this rainy September evening . . .

Human "Surrendered" To Marion Grant County Humane Society
Woman In Cage Indiana-PAW has received a press release announcing that, on September 2, 2006, Cheryl Walker's family "surrendered" her to the Marion Grant County Humane Society shelter in Marion, Indiana, where Cheryl is now confined to a 4'x 7' kennel. Cheryl is doing this to bring attention to the urgent need to raise money to build a new animal shelter (for $3 million), along with the plight of the animals at the shelter. Cheryl will remain at the shelter through the end of September, and is documenting her experience at the following website: http:// www.myspace.com/mgchs. Indiana-PAW salutes Cheryl Walker!

Inspirational Reading At The Indiana-PAW Website
Inspirational Reading Are you looking for an inspirational story that will prompt you to take the plunge and adopt a shelter animal? Are you an animal welfare worker suffering from burn-out? No matter who you are, you'll find inspiration at the Indiana-PAW Bulletin Boards. Two of our favorite recent postings are: (1) a beautiful message from Kim and Mike Kase of Countryside Animal Rescue about their recent experience of loving and losing an older shelter dog; and (2) a thoughtful essay written by Laura Gonzo of Casa Del Torro Bully Breed Education & Rescue that will inspire and energize even the most weary animal welfare worker. Find inspiration at the Indiana-PAW website!

Rushville Animal Shelter Needs Foster Parents

This kitten is one of many animals at the Rushville Animal Shelter whose life could be saved by a foster parent.
Indiana-PAW has a critical need for foster families to assist area shelters, including the Rushville Animal Shelter, which, according to shelter volunteer Jaime Glandon, has an adoption rate of less than 7%, but is working to increase that number through the use of foster parents. If you are willing to become an Indiana-PAW foster parent and provide temporary care to shelter animals at risk for euthanasia, click here. If you aren't able to foster, but would like to help Indiana-PAW's foster program, please donate to help with the $200+ we spend annually sending orientation packets to new foster parents (which we will soon have to discontinue without donor support).

Indiana-PAW Needs A Grantwriter

If so, Indiana-PAW needs you! We're looking for a volunteer to (1) locate funding resources for a 501(c)(3) animal education group like ours; and (2) complete appropriate grant applications on our behalf. We'd like to find someone who is a self-starter, works well with minimal direction (we're all volunteers ourselves, and don't have lots of time to give direction), and is willing to work closely with our Executive Director.
