New Beginnings, Inspiration & Thanks
Indiana-PAW Friends,
This beautiful, sunny October
Saturday is the perfect day for picking pumpkins, playing in the
yard with four-legged family members, and taking a quick read
through this latest e- newsletter from Indiana-PAW! Today, our theme
is new beginnings, inspiration, and thanks.
New Beginnings Humane Society for Hamilton
County: A New Beginning.
The Humane Society for Hamilton County and
Huntington Bank invite folks to attend the Humane Societys Grand
Opening Celebration. The celebration will include a live performance
by Jennie Devoe, an art exhibition featuring Indiana artists, and,
naturally, animals from the shelter. The celebration will take place
on Thursday, November 2nd, 2006, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at 1721
Pleasant Street, Noblesville, IN 46060. Tickets are $15 per person.
Hors d'oeuvres will be provided. For tickets, email syoder@hamiltonhumane.com
, or call 317.219.3324.
Dogs Rescued From Connersville: A New Beginning.
As we told you last week, more than 30
dogs, cats and kittens were recently rescued from extremely poor
conditions in Connersville, Indiana. Two of the dogs need foster
homes ASAP, and were hoping one of our readers can help. The two
dogs needing help are Little Red (a chubby little reddish
beagle-Corgi mix, neutered male, who is about 7, likes other dogs,
healthy) and Gypsy (a shy Doberman-mix, female, about 50-60 pounds,
who is middle-aged and loves to be petted, likes other dogs). Both
Little Red and Gypsy are sweet dogs, and very manageable. Foster
care would help socialize them and increase their adoptability.
Please click
here if you are interested in fostering one or both of them.

Ryan Newman and his family
| NASCAR Racer Works For Animals.
This week, there was an excellent article at the CNN website about
NASCAR racer Ryan Newmans efforts to help raise awareness of the
population mismanagement of dogs in this country. Newman, a native
of rural Indiana, has started a foundation and contributed $400,000
to help build a state-of-the-art spay/neuter clinic in North
Carolina, where Newman now lives. Newman is a staunch advocate of
the need to spay/neuter pets, and of adopting from animal shelters.
He and his wife Krissie have four rescued dogs. To learn more about
this Hoosier natives good work for animals, click

Thanks Indiana-PAW would like to extend several
thank you's on this lovely October afternoon:
Indiana-PAW Volunteer
Connor Fraser with Seymour. |
- Thanks to Wags
Stray Animal Foundation, an Indianapolis rescue agency that
stepped up to the plate to give a foster home to Seymour, the dog
we told you about last week. Seymour (pictured at right) was left,
along with 8 other dogs, in a trailer park to die. Luckily for
him, Volunteers
for Animal Welfare (a Cedar Grove, Indiana organization)
stepped in to help him, having him neutered and vaccinated. Then,
Indiana-PAW put Volunteers For Animal Welfare in touch with Wags
Stray Animal Foundation, which has taken Seymour in until a
permanent home can be located for him. One week ago today, Seymour
was living in a trailer park, tied to a trailer. Now, hes on his
way to a new life. Thank you to Wags Stray Animal Foundation, and
to Volunteers for Animal Welfare!
Thanks to Petlane,
the generous corporate sponsor of the Indiana-PAW "Super
Database," a tool that provides citizens with quick access to
contact information for more than 380 animal agencies across
Indiana!
Thanks to Lucky
Dog Retreat, the generous corporate sponsor of the popular
Indiana-PAW "Pet
Of The Week" program, which helps match citizens with animals
awaiting adoption at Indiana shelters.
