Reason To Believe: Let Indiana-PAW Inform, Motivate You Education

Indiana-PAW Friends,

Now that you've picked out your pumpkin, purchased Halloween candy, and raked your leaves, we at Indiana-PAW want to give you a reason to believe . . . a reason to believe, that is, in our collective ability to change the lives of Hoosier dogs and cats who've been forgotten. Read on to learn about:

  • Upcoming events to support homeless animals;
  • How you can help a shelter that's closing; and
  • The life-changes occurring through the Indiana-PAW/Rushville Animal Shelter project (WARNING: you might need to pull out your hankies when you see these uplifting photos and video, and read the heartwarming interviews below).

Spotlight On Local Events To Benefit Animals
Animal Groups At The Christmas Gift & Hobby Show. From November 7-11, a bevy of Indiana groups that serve homeless animals will share booth space at the 58th Annual Christmas Gift & Hobby Show, held in the West Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Indiana-PAW will be at the Show on Saturday, November 10th, from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with the last three animals from our "Rushville Project" who need homes. Click here to watch video of the adoptable sweeties we'll have at the Show, and click here if you'd like to volunteer at our booth!

Tinsel & Tails Holiday Petacular. On November 8th, the Humane Society for Hamilton County will hold its "Tinsel & Tails Holiday Petacular" at the Oak Hill Mansion in Carmel (5801 E. 116th Street), including a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and music. Tickets are $65 per person, $120 per couple, and tables of 8 for $450. To purchase tickets, email HSHC, or call 317-219-3324.

Several Local Animal Groups Need Your Help

One of the cats needing a home at PAWS.
Borden, Indiana Group Losing Shelter. The PAWS rescue group in Borden, Indiana is losing their cat shelter, and looking for permanent and foster homes for about 18 kitties. If you have room in your home and your heart to take in one of these cats, please contact Cindy at 502-727-4040 or 812-967-5957.

Terre Haute Humane Society. The Terre Haute Humane Society tells Indiana-PAW that they have a shortage of foster homes to help them provide short-term care to animals who need socialization, are sick, or are simply waiting to go to rescue homes. Folks interested in fostering can e-mail the shelter's Foster Coordinator, Kim Tanner. Additionally, the shelter would greatly appreciate donations of cat litter and canned cat, dog and puppy food.

Help For Outdoor Dogs This Winter. Two Indiana-PAW partners - F.I.D.O. (Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside) and Casa del Toro (Bully Breed Education & Rescue) - are teaming up to help outside dogs stay warm this winter. The Winter Dog Outreach Program run by these two agencies targets the poorest and most crime-filled neighborhoods where many of these dogs suffer. Volunteers go door-to-door encouraging owners to bring their dogs indoors, or at a bare minimum, help provide them with sufficient shelter and food supplies to help during cold weather. Click here to find out how your donation of supplies and/or time can help needy dogs this winter.

Lifesaving Mission Continues: Updates On Indiana-PAW/Rushville Shelter Project
Don't believe in miracles? Well keep reading, because you just might change your mind . . . In July, Indiana-PAW and the Rushville Animal Shelter selected 17 animals to be pulled from the Rushville shelter, which, sadly, has a 93% euthanasia rate. Over the past 3 months, these animals have been vaccinated, altered, socialized by Indiana-PAW foster parents, and - with the exception of three kitties who we're still trying to find homes for - adopted into wonderful "forever homes." See the links below for videos, photos and interviews about this memorable project:

Three Sweeties Still Need Your Help. Daphne, Joplin and Jagger are the LAST THREE remaining Indiana-PAW/Rushville animals needing homes. Click here to watch a video about these three extraordinary cats.

Daphne is looking for a home.

Joplin wants you to take her home.

Why not adopt Jagger?

Special Thank You. Indiana-PAW had many corporate sponsors for this project, but none more helpful than Pet Supplies "PLUS," who donated supplies, space for offsite adoption events for the animals, and discounts for people who adopted the animals. Thank you to Nick Milano, owner of Pet Supplies "PLUS" for setting the gold standard for corporate support of animal welfare efforts.

Thanks to all of our readers for all you do for Indiana animals!
