Santa's Bag Of Holiday News From Indiana-PAW Happy Holidays!

Hello Indiana-PAW Friends

It's just 48 hours until Christmas, and we want to share warm success stories with you, and ask for your big-hearted holiday help for Indiana's neediest animals. What better way to make the most of the holiday season than by lending your support to pets who desperately need holiday miracles?

Indiana-PAW's Foster Program Needs Holiday Heroes!

Indiana-PAW Foster Puppy
Indiana-PAW's foster program has helped save the lives of hundreds of homeless Hoosier animals. The puppy pictured at left is just one example. Leslie Fatum, the head of Indianapolis Animal Care & Control, recently asked Indiana-PAW foster parents for help with a bevy of puppies at her shelter, including this little fellow. Our foster parents came forward for 10 of the puppies, prompting Leslie to send us an e-mail saying, "This is the best Christmas present we could ever get: having animals that had such poor prospects get a chance for a wonderful life . . . [and] realizing a "Christmas miracle.'" We're grateful for our successes, but we need FAR more foster parents to keep up with the overwhelming number of requests for help we receive from Indiana shelters. Tracey Bruick, one of our best foster parents, makes a strong case for how rewarding it can be, and says: "I became a foster parent so I could help just a couple of the thousands that need it. I visit shelters throughout the Indy area frequently, and am always saddened by the number of animals, and by their stories. It's amazing to see the difference a kind, loving home can make for an animal, whether they are ill, or just from a bad situation.  It doesn't take alot, just some love and some time." Millie The St. Bernard Needs A Foster Home

Millie
Pat Holcomb with Swiss Friends of Animals, a rescue group in southeast Indiana, has reached out to Indiana-PAW for a foster home for Millie, a sweet St. Bernard (pictured at right). Millie is great with people, does great on a leash, and rides well, but needs a foster parent who is able to help her with dog aggression, so that she can become adoptable. If you can help, please contact Pat Holcomb with Swiss Friends of Animals.

Dogs Left In Trailer Park Need Foster Homes

Dog abandoned in trailer park needs Indiana-PAW's help
Paula Brock, the founder of Volunteers For Animal Welfare (a Cedar Grove, Indiana organization) has asked Indiana-PAW to follow-up with citizens on a story we shared a few months ago. As you may recall, 9 dogs were left in an Indiana trailer park to die. Paula's organization has been taking the dogs food, has had many of them neutered and vaccinated, and has even found homes for a couple of them. However, there are still several dogs abandoned in the trailer park for whom Paula is desperately trying to secure foster homes. One of the dogs, named Baby, has hip dysplasia and needs mediation. If you can foster any of these poor dogs, or would like to sponsor medication for Baby, please contact Paula Brock directly.

Uplifting Stuff For The Holidays
Christmas Visit the Indiana-PAW website for inspiration! For example, read a holiday poem about a Christmas wish for every homeless animal. Or, read a 5-hanky story about an Anderson dog who went from homeless to the mom/dad lottery when he was adopted by a wonderful local couple, thanks to Countryside Animal Rescue, an Indiana-PAW partner. Or, learn how you can participate in Home 4 The Holidays, the world's largest adoption campaign!

Help Indiana's Most At-Risk Dog: The Pit Bull
Pit Bull Pit Bulls are one of the most at-risk groups of animals Indiana, and lose their lives at a staggering rate here. Indiana-PAW partners with a number of local groups who are dedicated to raising awareness about and helping Pit Bulls. Tonight, we'd like to share three opportunities for you to help our State's most a-risk dogs:

Opportunity #1: volunteer with FIDO (Friends of Indy Dogs Outside), one of the few animal welfare organizations that goes out into needy communities and works to directly improve the quality of life of dogs living outside, most often on chains and in neglectful situations. FIDO provides dogs - including many Pit Bulls - with warm dog houses, training crates, and dog food, and has them neutered and microchipped. FIDO is in dire need of volunteers to help them keep pace with the deluge of phone calls they're receiving. If you can volunteer with FIDO, please contact Darcie Kurtz.

Opportunity #2: Give your donations of cash and supplies to Casa Del Toro Bully Breed Education & Rescue, to assist them with their "Operation Pit Bull P.A.W.S: P (Providing) A (Adequate) W (Warm) S (Shelter)." They are collecting donations of supplies to provide to needy Pit Bull owners, as many Pit Bulls are left outside, struggling to brave the harsh Indiana winter with their short coats. If you have a donation to help, please contact Laurie Adams.

Opportunity #3: Send a donation to Indy Pit Crew to help a Pit Bull puppy named Lilly who was repeatedly stabbed in the neck and left for dead on the south side of Indianapolis recently. Lilly is recovering from her injuries and has been featured on local news programs. You may send a donation to cover the cost of Lilly's care to: Lilly's Fund, c/o Indy Pit Crew, PO Box 40575, Indianapolis, IN 46240, or online at Indy Pit Crew's website (click on the Paypal link and please indicate "Lilly's Fund").

FACE Clinic Holiday Donation Drive
Lend A Hand, Help A Paw The FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is running a holiday donation drive called "Lend a Hand, Help a Paw" out of recognition for the fact that the holiday season can be a particularly difficult time to make ends meet for some animal caretakers who have opened their hearts and homes and saved a homeless dog or cat. Thus, FACE is collecting dog and cat food, cat litter, treats and toys, collars, leashes, cat and dog beds, blankets, litter boxes, dog houses or crates, and cat carriers to give to needy families. You can drop off donations at the FACE Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic at 1505 Massachusetts Ave. in Indianapolis, as well as all Indy Pet Supplies Plus locations. Contact Erica Flores for more information.

Hamilton County Low-Cost Spay Neuter Clinic Up And Running!
Spay Neuter The new low-cost spay-neuter clinic in Hamilton County has opened! They're located at 1721-A Pleasant Street in Noblesville, in the same building as the new Humane Society for Hamilton County. To learn more, visit the clinic's website or call 317-706 -0537!

Learn To Dance With Your Dog!
DANCE! Paws & Think has asked Indiana-PAW to publicize the fact that they're preparing to host the "Carolyn Scott Canine Freestyle Workshop" on February 24th and 25th, which will teach dogs and their human companions to dance together! The deadline for early registration is December 31st. To learn more, visit the Paws & Think website.

Animal Rescue Site Needs Your "Clicks" To Feed Homeless Animals!
Animal Rescue Site The Animal Rescue Site, a website that provides food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals dumped at U.S. shelters every year, is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "Feed An Animal In Need" for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors and advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned animals in exchange for advertising. Click here to visit the site, click on the purple box that says "Feed An Animal For Free," and encourage everyone you know to do the same each day!

Happy holidays! And thanks to all of YOU for all you do for Indiana animals!
