Happy Holidays & News From Indiana-PAW!

Holidays We at Indiana-PAW send you - our dedicated volunteers, foster families, donors, shelter/rescue group partners, and media partners - our warmest holiday wishes! Thank you for all you do to help Hoosier animals. Now, some quick Indiana-PAW news before we all nestle in for a warm holiday with loved ones of both the two and four-legged variety . . .

Recognizing Our Volunteers & Foster Families
Our volunteers and foster parents are our lifeblood. Each volunteer and foster parent should have received a special holiday gift in the mail from us - namely, buttons that say: "I'm A Hero. I Volunteer." and "I'm A Hero. I Foster." If you did not receive your button, please let us know! Also, stay tuned for details about a special Indiana-PAW volunteer/foster parent appreciation reception that will take place in early 2006.

The Kinsey Street Gang Needs Your Help!
Holidays Christmas is the time of year when wishes come true, and Indiana-PAW is featuring a group of dogs who are looking for a Christmas miracle. In the middle of October, 42 (!) dogs were rescued from a home on Kinsey Street in Richmond, Indiana, where they were living in conditions that were so horrific they disturbed seasoned police and animal welfare volunteers. Half of these dogs are in the tender care of HELP The Animals, Inc. a shelter based in Richmond. To help these animals, visit Indiana-PAW's Pet Of The Week page.

Sign Up For More & Better Adoptions Seminar
The Humane Society of Indianapolis has asked Indiana-PAW to encourage shelters and rescue groups to consider signing up to participate in the "More And Better Adoptions" seminar this January. This is an intensive two-day training seminar for shelter employees and animal welfare volunteers to learn how to make the best matches between people and new pets, and help more animals on the path to loving lifetime homes! Click here for a flyer outlining the seminar. If you'd like more information about the program, please call 317.872.5650, x173, or e-mail Russell Suba at HSI.

Large Volunteer Research Project
One of Indiana-PAW's partners, Circle City Animal Allies (CCAA), has asked to borrow our volunteers for a project. CCAA is a coalition of local animal shelters and rescue groups working in partnership with Indianapolis Animal Care & Control to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals by 2015. CCAA will be authoring a community wide 10-year strategic plan in preparation for a Maddie's Fund grant, and needs help preparing this plan. Specifically, CCAA needs a couple of dedicated Indiana-PAW volunteers with strong research skills to help research, analyze and summarize best shelter/rescue practices in several key areas, as well as research and prepare a resource map for Indianapolis concerning off-site adoption venues and community event opportunities. Stop Dog & Cat Slaughter in China
Indiana-PAW volunteer Babe Wiese asked us to encourage folks to take action in connection with China's slaughter of dogs and cats for their fur. Representatives Dennis Kucinich (Ohio) and Jim Moran (Virginia) are leading the fight to persuade China to stop slaughtering dogs and cats, and encourage Americans to avoid purchasing anything made with dog or cat fur. If you'd like to thank these representatives for their work, or express your concerns to Indiana representatives, go to United States House Of Representative Members.

As always, thank you for your support and well wishes. And warmest wishes to each of you!
