Bridget - ADOPTED!

Bridget Background: Bridget is running out of time at the Putnam County Humane Society, and needs immediate help. Shelter volunteer LeChele tells Indiana-PAW that Bridget is a terrific dog with whom LaChele has been working closely since December. LaChele tells us Bridge has been wonderful with shelter staff at the Putnam County Humane Society, is very loving, respects an alpha handler quite well, walks well on the leash, sits on command, heels, and will even lie down. LaChele believes Bridget could benefit from Rimadyl for her hips. LaChele says Bridget could probably do well in a home with other animals, but could benefit from an owner who will work with her on some territorial issues that developed as a result of poor Bridget being chained to a tree for the majority of her life. LaChele believes a good handler will be able, as she is doing with Bridget, to set the tone, and let Bridget know that territorial behavior is inappropriate. LaChele is willing to work with Bridget's adoptive family, assuming one is found in time. LaChele says Bridget is a wonderful, loving, smart dog.

Barney - ADOPTED!

Barney Background: Barney is a very sweet, energetic puppy who was let loose on a country road. He's about one year old and 65 pounds, but looks like he still has a little growing to do! Is Barney the guy for you? Come for a visit and find out!

Gender: Male

Breed: Boxer/Great Dane/??? Mix

Approximate Age: 1 year old

Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Barney is neutered.

Vaccinations: Yes, Barney is up-to-date on all his vaccinations.

Housetrained: Yes, Barney is both crate-trained and housetrained!

Compatibility With Children: Barney would do great with older children. He is very friendly around all people, but because of his size and energy, he can overwhelm younger children with his kisses.

Compatibility With Other Pets: Barney seems to be okay with most dogs, but careful introductions should be made. He does tend to be dominate. However, we don't know how he is with cats.

Personality: Barney is an energetic, silly, goofy, loving puppy. He loves to run at full speed in the back yard and play with sticks. He definitely shows his "puppy-ness" through his chewing tendencies, but won't destroy your stuff as long as you always have plenty of chew toys available. He loves all people, and will get attached to his owner quickly. He likes to be by your side. Sometimes he is busy trying to get you to play, but he will also calm down and curl up next to you. He loves to go for walks, and is getting better at walking on a leash using a gentle leader. Barney is very calm and well-behaved in the car.

Ideal Home: Barney's ideal home would have no children, or older children. He needs lots of exercise, so a fenced in backyard would be ideal, and an owner who will take him on plenty of walks is essential. Barney can climb 6 ft. tall chain link fences, so a wood fence would be best. He might benefit from having another young dog with lots of energy to play with.
