Indiana-PAW Pet Of The Week Sponsored By
Hank
Background: Hank has been in a foster home for quite a while - and deserves to find his very own family! He was rescued as a puppy from a shelter that could not care for him or his hound siblings. He was returned to the ARPO system and has been in a foster home since then. Hank is a very smart and athletic dog - he learns new tricks instantly (he is highly food motivated!). He enjoys long walks or jogs, playing at the dog park or doggie daycare and hanging out with his foster mom!
Gender: Male
Breed: Hound Mix
Approximate Age: 3 years old, and about 55 lbs.
Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Hank is neutered!
Vaccinations: Yes, Hank is up-to-date with all vaccines.
Housetrained: Yes, Hank is housetrained and crate trained!
Compatibility with Children: Small children make Hank nervous - so, he would not be a candidate for a home with young children. He loves playing and would do great in a home with middle school or older kids.
Compatibility with Other Animals: Hank loves to play with other dogs. He does great with other dogs in social settings outside of his own home. In his own home he is possessive of his toys and his people. He would do best in a home with no other dogs or where the people can manage his behavior.
Personality: Hank is a very loyal companion. He is not a big chewer and won't chew on your furniture or eat your socks! He is very active - both mentally and physically. He loves to go to training class and loves to learn new tricks (well, okay, actually, he just loves to get the treats....). Currently, Hank is in a training class to earn his Good Canine Citizenship certification! He loves to go for walks and jogs to explore. He would make a great hiking or running partner and can even run alongside a bike! Although he is very active, he also enjoys hanging around the house and quality mid-afternoon naps. He is very attentive to his people and will make someone a great best friend. Hank does not jump a four foot fence and isn't the type to try to get out of a fenced yard.
Ideal Home: Hank's ideal home would be one where he gets plenty of attention and exercise. A fenced yard would be helpful - but not a requirement if the family is active. He can be vocal - so, an apartment probably would not be ideal for Hank.
To Adopt: If you would like to meet or learn more about Hank, contact the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership (ARPO) at adoptions@adoptarpo.org or (317)774-8292. Hank can also often be seen at the Castleton Petsmart on Saturdays between noon and 4 pm. You can visit ARPO on the web at www.adoptarpo.org.
Louise - ADOPTED!
Background: This sweet little girl is named Louise. Louise came into the Morgan County Humane Society with her sister, Thelma, as stray feral dogs. They were both very shy and mostly "hid" at the back of their kennel. Then Thelma got adopted and Louise was left all alone. She is finally coming out of her shell, but really needs a home of her own. She is a very sweet girl and as calm as they come. Only 3 years old, about 30 pounds, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and already spayed. She would make a great pet for a quiet household.
Gender: Female
Breed: Terrier/Hound Mix
Approximate Age: 3 years old (and only 30 lbs.!)
Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Louise is spayed!
Vaccinations: Yes, Louise is up-to-date with all vaccines and is heartworm negative.
Housetrained: Yes, Louise is housetrained and crate trained!
Compatibility with Children: Louise is very gentle and would be fine with infants/young children, but she would do best in a quiet household.
Compatibility with Other Animals: Louise has been fabulous with her foster mom's other dogs -- respectful of her grouchy alpha female and ready to play-play-play with her over-sized puppy.
Personality: Louise is a delightful little girl. She made herself right at home at her foster mom's on a recliner and hangs out there most of the day. Loud noises scare Louise, but she has been fine with normal household sounds like the vacuum cleaner, washing machine, etc. Louise begs for attention by cocking her head and pawing the air. It is so cute! She comes whenever her foster mom calls her and is getting better about going in and out the door. Because she was on her own before coming to MCHS, she will need a regular fenced yard (no underground fence) or leash walking only. She is quiet enough to do well in an apartment.
Ideal Home: Louise's ideal home would be a quiet home. She'd do fine in a home or an apartment, with or without kids or other pets. Basically, someone that was patient with her, knowing her background. She will probably always be shy, so will need a patient, gentle approach.
To Adopt: If you would like to find out more about adopting Louise, contact the Morgan County Humane Society at adoptions@mchumanesoc.org or 765-349-9177. You can also visit MCHS online at www.mchumanesoc.org.
Faith
Background: Meet Faith, she is approximately 1 year old and weighs around 40 pounds. She was rescued from the Animal Shelter, not just once, but twice now. This little girl has had a pretty tough time so far, but you would never know it as she is such a wonderful and well adjusted dog. She is a very well behaved dog and has excellent manners.
To Adopt:
Gender: Female
Breed: Brittany Spaniel (Mix)
Approximate Age: 1 year old
Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Faith is spayed!
Vaccinations: Yes, Faith is up-to-date with all vaccines, including rabies, lepto and bordatella. She has an ID microchip and is current on heartworm and flea preventatives.
Housetrained: Yes, Faith is housetrained, crate-trained (and loves her crate!) She is a very well behaved dog and has excellent manners. She knows how to sit, shake, down, stay and leave it. She is quick learner and is developing very good manners.
Compatibility with Children: Faith is a wonderful dog and plays very well with children of all ages.
Compatibility with Other Animals: Faith is living with another larger dog (Lab 9 years old) and they get along just great although she would prefer to have a younger more active playmate. She was introduced to one cat and did chase after one; so were not sure if she would learn to do okay with cats or if she should be in a home without cats.
Personality: Faith loves to play including tug-of-war, fetch and will bring it back!! She likes to have a toy box for all of her toys so she can drag them all out around the house her foster mom said. She loves raw hide chews and hard bones, but she can't have soft toys as she will chew them up and shred them into pieces along with leaving out slippers, gloves, shoes, so don't leave anything out that she can't determine is not a doggie toy. She is just like a puppy in that regard, still in the chewing stage!!!
Ideal Home: Currently in Faith's foster home she does not have a fenced in yard, but it would be very nice in her new forever home so she could get lots of exercise and play with another dog. Let us remind you how smart she is, she can open a gate and get out, so you will need to lock the gate and make sure your fence is tall enough that she can’t get over. Faith does not like the cold weather so right now she would only want to go out for quick potty breaks or for a nice long walk with a sweater.
To Adopt: If you would like to be considered to be Faith's new guardian and you are willing to love and care for her for the rest of her life, then please fill out a dog adoption application on Countyside Animal Rescue's website at www.countrysideanimalrescue.org. Approved adoption application and home visit is required for all adoptions.
Freckles
Background: Freckles was recently rescued from a shelter on 01/18/08. Freckles' foster parents are getting to know him and learning more and more about him each day. They are teaching Freckles exciting new things, like what a leash is, how to sit and stay and something called "manners." He has been crate trained and really does enjoy the crate, but he has lots of free time outside of it as well. Freckles weighs 45 pounds and is approximately 1 year old and all puppy!!! We're not sure what breed of a dog, but we think he is a Border Collie or maybe Australian Shepherd or a Spaniel mix. Freckles is very friendly once he gets to know you, but it is obvious that he did not have proper socialization as a young one. When meeting new people, he might grumble for just a bit, but then is okay after that all he just wants from you is your undivided attention.
Gender: Male
Breed: Border Collie, Australian Shepherd (Mix)
Approximate Age: 1 year old (approx)
Spay/Neuter Status: Yes, Freckles is neutered!
Vaccinations: Yes, Freckles is up-to-date with all vaccines, including rabies, lepto and bordatella. He has an ID microchip and is current on heartworm and flea preventatives.
Housetrained: Yes, Freckles is housetrained, crate-trained. He needs to learn manners and is very smart, so he should learn rapidly.
Compatibility with Children: Freckles has not had a chance to meet small or young children.
Compatibility with Other Animals: Freckles has other dogs in his foster to play with and he is meeting them slowly, but he had a bad case of kennel cough when he arrived and has been isolated from them so far. There are some cats is his foster home too, and he is very curious about them. He is unsure if they like him or he likes them or even wants to play with them yet.
Personality: Freckles is extremely sweet, loving and likes to cuddle, when he settles down. He just craves love and attention and just can't get enough.
Ideal Home: Freckles has a lot of energy, so his new home will need a big fenced yard for him to go out and play and run. His foster parents recommend that he be enrolled in obedience classes right away with his new guardians. Want to go?
To Adopt: If you would like to be considered to be Freckles' new guardian and you are willing to love and care for her for the rest of her life, then please fill out a dog adoption application on Countyside Animal Rescue's website at www.countrysideanimalrescue.org. Approved adoption application and home visit is required for all adoptions.
